Highland Historic Buildings Trust in conjunction with the Kirkmichael Trust and the Evanton Community Trust organised an unusual guided tour, suitable for all the family, on the afternoon of Sunday 14th August 2016, starting at Alness burial ground at 2pm.    

The tour of Alness kirkyard (where the afternoon’s activities began) was led by architect Les Hunter and heritage consultant Andrew Wright on behalf of the Highland Historic Buildings Trust which was followed by a tour of the Kiltearn Old Parish Church cemetery led by the Evanton Community Trust.
At both sites there was plenty of opportunity to learn how to ‘read’ historic kirk buildings and tombstones and to establish whether there is any similarity in stone masonry between the burial grounds.
